The Axa Car Breakdown policy is designed specifically for MyInsurance insurance clients with a motor vehicle that is less than 7 tonnes and less than 16 years old (11 years old for European cover).

Cover is provided for:

  • Your inability to continue your journey in the vehicle because of: a mechanical breakdown; an accident; vandalism; a fire; a theft or an attempted theft; a flat tyre; a flat battery; it having no fuel; or putting the wrong fuel into it
  • Breakdown occurring more than 1 mile away from your home and travelling within: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Romania, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, the Vatican City, Malta, the Republic of Cyprus, and other islands that belong to these countries and that are in Europe
  • Journeys commencing more than 24 hours after purchase of the cover and for European journeys which last for up to 30 days any one trip and 90 days in total during the year

In the event of a breakdown described above:

Breakdown Within The UK (for vehicles less than 16 years old)

  • a breakdown recovery will attend and spend up to 1 hour trying to get the vehicle working again
  • if the vehicle cannot be repaired within 1 hour then the vehicle, the driver and up to 6 passengers will be transported to:
    • a local garage for it to be repaired (at your expense) OR
    • your home or final destination if within 15 miles
  • if the vehicle cannot be made safe to drive and cannot be repaired the same day at a suitable local garage then, depending upon the circumstances:
    • the vehicle, the driver and up to 6 passengers will be transported to your original destination OR your home address and the vehicle to be taken to a suitable garage for it to be repaired (at your expense) OR
    • one night's bed & breakfast accommodation will be paid for up £40 per person (£280 in total) OR
    • a 24 hour hire vehicle will be paid for up to £100

Breakdown Within Europe (for vehicles less than 11 years old within the countries defined above)

  • a breakdown recovery will attend and spend up to 1 hour trying to get the vehicle working again
  • if the vehicle cannot be repaired within 1 hour then the vehicle, the driver and up to 6 passengers will be transported to a local garage for it to be repaired (at your expense)
  • if the vehicle cannot be made safe to drive and cannot be repaired the same day at a suitable local garage then, depending upon the circumstances:
    • the vehicle, the driver and up to 6 passengers and luggage will be transported to your original destination and, once the vehicle has been repaired, take you back to your vehicle or take your vehicle to you OR
    • bed & breakfast accommodation will be paid for up £40 per person per day (£500 in total) OR
      • a hire vehicle will be paid for up to £70 per day (£750 in total)
    • if the vehicle is still not repaired or safe to drive when it is time for you to go home then:
      • reasonable transports costs will be paid to get you, your passengers and your luggage home
      • up to £150 towards other travel costs in the UK while you wait for your vehicle to be returned
      • up to £100 storage charges whilst your vehicle is waiting to be repaired, collected or taken to the UK
      • either the vehicle will be returned to your home or your chosen repairer OR one rail, sea or air ticket will be paid for you to collect the vehicle
  • in addition:
    • up to £200 will be paid to make your vehicle secure following theft or attempted theft
    • the cost of delivery of replacement parts will be paid if they are not available locally (excluding the cost of the parts themselves)

Emergency Driver Cover (UK and Europe)

In the event that the driver cannot drive due to illness/injury and there is no-one else able to drive the vehicle then a driver will be provided to complete the journey or return the vehicle and passengers home.
